About Our Veterinary Staff

Sylvan Lake Animal Clinic Acupuncture and Laser Surgery Center was established in 1975 by the previous owner. Dr. June Vandiver purchased the practice in 1998. The clinic is located just south of Rome City on State Road 9.

Dr. Vandiver has continued to improve and add to the services offered. A new in-house blood test machine was added shortly after purchasing the practice. Recent improvements include an automatic radiograph processor and an AccuVet CO2 Laser Surgery unit.  Dr. Vandiver also offers Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine for our clients looking for a more holistic way to treat their pets.

Dr. June Vandiver grew up in Mishawaka, Indiana. According to her Mother she set her sights on becoming a veterinarian when she was 8 years old. Dr. Vandiver graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1982. She then attended Purdue University and received a B.S. from the School of Agriculture in 1986. She met her future husband, Jim, while attending Purdue. Shortly after they were married they moved to Alabama where Dr. Vandiver trained halter and pleasure quarter horses for the national show circuit. This seemed to intensify the desire to become a veterinarian. Dr. Vandiver enrolled into Mississippi State University Veterinary School in 1991. She did her 4 years of veterinary school in 3 years and spent the final year traveling doing externships throughout the country. She was fortunate enough to work in 9 different veterinary practices while still in school. This gave some "real world knowledge" and better prepared her to meet the needs of pet owners. Dr. Vandiver accepted a position with Dr. Webb in Millersburg, Indiana after graduating from Mississippi State in 1995. She worked as an associate veterinarian for 3 years before purchasing her own practice.

Jim Vandiver, Dr. Vandiver's husband, participates in the clinic in the role of office manager and most recently as the receptionist. Jim also graduated from Purdue University in 1986 with a B.S. from the School of Agriculture. He is very friendly and always willing to listen to and talk with our clients. The next time you come in ask him about his latest adventure! He always seems to have a new project going on.

Lacie Bloomfield is now Lacie Harris! Congratulations to Lacie and Jeremy on their recent wedding.  Lacie is Dr. Vandivers full time veterinary assistant. Lacie started out as our kennel caretaker in 2003 and has continued her employment with us. You will meet Lacie when you are checking in a pet for surgery or to have your pet stay at our bed and breakfast. She is Dr. Vandiver's right-hand lady. She runs the lab, fills prescriptions, and keeps the back office running smoothly, and pretty much stays one step ahead of Dr. Vandiver.
